REVOLVING LANTERN

REVOLVING LANTERN - A GIFT OF MEMORIES
Revolving lantern is known as the "gift of memories" because only a few older generations still remember it.
As life becomes more modern and advanced, traditional toys gradually disappear, even during Trung Thu (Mid Autumn Festival), where it used to be prominent. It is now hard to come across, or if found, it is often hidden behind the brightly colored toys of all shapes and sizes that are bustlingly sold on the streets and markets.
Mr. Thai Hoang has 9 years of experience in pursuing the craft of making Lantern Kéo Quân. He shares the serendipitous story of his connection with the traditional handicraft through winning a prize at school in a lantern-making competition.
He explains the symbolism of the 6 sides of the lantern, representing 6 human characteristics: love, hate, anger, sadness, happiness, and resentment. The spinning lantern not only serves as a decoration but also symbolizes the ever-changing nature of human beings, while telling stories to children through the shadows of the spinning figures.
Mr. Hoang finds joy in bringing lanterns to children and letting the Lantern Kéo Quân, along with many other traditional Vietnamese toys, come alive in the hearts of today's children.
